The Road Less Traveled
Poetry is one of my favorite forms of writing because it allows me to express myself in many ways. One of my favorite poems is titled, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost; because it tells the story of a man and a choice. He has the choice to either go left or right, instead of making a hasty decision he ponders this choice for a long while before deciding.
Each of us encounters a time in our lives when we must decide whether to go right or left, to follow the crowd or walk alone, to take the easy route or venture out to explore something new. In whatever decision you are pondering it is important to weigh the consequences.
The poem goes on to say that after many years he looks back and realizes that the road he took made all the difference in his life. We must think long and hard before making a decision that may alter the course of our lives, whether to attend this college or that, take this job or that, marry this person or that. The road less traveled is the road that many people avoid taking because it leads to the unknown. Who doesn't want to make the safe choice? But will that choice cause you to look back and wonder what if?
What is your road less traveled? How has your choice to take one path over the other made a difference in your life? Has that difference been good or bad?
When you come to a fork in your journey, think long and hard because the road you travel down will make all the difference in your life.
